Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Electrical and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 4.21% or 59.000 points to trade at 1462.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 3.31% or 57.00 points to end at 1778.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.15% or 6.55 points to 214.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which fell 4.43% or 66.00 points to trade at 1422.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) declined 2.62% or 192.00 points to end at 7135.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 1.29% or 26.00 points to 1984.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1330 to 980 and 443 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.15% or 6.55 to 214.85.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.64% or 8.05 to $1270.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.94% or 1.48 to hit $51.77 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.44% or 1.26 to trade at $52.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.2268, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.8937.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 97.91.
