Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.27% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.81% or 32.00 points to trade at 697.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.18% or 48.00 points to end at 1197.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 4.14% or 260.00 points to 6535.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which fell 2.31% or 63.00 points to trade at 2666.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 2.20% or 9.50 points to end at 423.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was down 2.04% or 31.000 points to 1490.000.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1124 to 1009 and 433 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.18% or 48.00 to 1197.00.
Gold for August delivery was up 1.35% or 16.85 to $1263.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.61% or 0.81 to hit $51.17 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.87% or 0.96 to trade at $52.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.4556, while EUR/GBP rose 0.31% to 0.7834.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 93.47.
