Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Aerospace & Defense and Electrical sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 6.57% or 380.00 points to trade at 6165.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 6.16% or 64.00 points to end at 1103.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.62% or 16.50 points to 646.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which fell 5.85% or 50.50 points to trade at 812.50 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.87% or 6.40 points to end at 216.70 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 2.39% or 54.00 points to 2205.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1122 to 909 and 499 ended unchanged.
Shares in Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.85% or 50.50 to 812.50. Shares in ITV PLC (LON:ITV) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.87% or 6.40 to 216.70.
Gold for June delivery was up 1.81% or 23.05 to $1295.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.83% or 0.81 to hit $45.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.84% or 0.83 to trade at $45.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.4436, while EUR/GBP rose 0.51% to 0.7914.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 93.65.
