Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.82%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT), which rose 2.88% or 32.00 points to trade at 1144.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) added 2.72% or 27.50 points to end at 1038.00 and Rio Tinto (LONDON:RIO) was up 2.61% or 73.00 points to 2874.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petrofac (LONDON:PFC), which fell 10.01% or 101.50 points to trade at 912.50 at the close. Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) declined 1.72% or 12.50 points to end at 716.00 and Associated British Foods (LONDON:ABF) was down 1.48% or 43.00 points to 2863.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1561 to 1068 and 433 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.71% or 8.60 to $1194.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.27% or 0.73 to hit $58.05 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.40 to trade at $63.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.4916, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.7217.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.35% at 97.96.
