Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Electrical and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were BP Plc (LONDON:BP), which rose 4.35% or 18.25 points to trade at 437.40 at the close. Meanwhile, RSA Insurance Group Plc (LONDON:RSA) added 2.04% or 8.200 points to end at 411.000 and National Grid (LONDON:NG) was up 1.93% or 15.80 points to 833.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT), which fell 3.81% or 42.00 points to trade at 1059.00 at the close. Intertek Group (LONDON:ITRK) declined 3.21% or 79.00 points to end at 2383.00 and International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG) was down 2.65% or 13.30 points to 489.20.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1389 to 1180 and 399 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.52% or 6.10 to $1163.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.00% or 0.57 to hit $57.53 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.64 to trade at $62.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.00% to 1.5618, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.7104.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 96.20.
