Investing.com – Russia stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Power and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX declined 0.64% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the MICEX were ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS), which rose 5.16% or 3.310 points to trade at 67.410 at the close. Meanwhile, Gruppa Cherkizovo ao (MCX:GCHE) added 2.68% or 20.0 points to end at 765.0 and MMK (MCX:MAGN) was up 2.51% or 0.374 points to 15.289 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MTS (MCX:MTSS), which fell 8.98% or 21.90 points to trade at 222.05 at the close. E.ON Russia (MCX:EONR) declined 8.14% or 0.2400 points to end at 2.7100 and RDR United Company RUSAL PLC (MCX:RUALR) was down 3.82% or 10.50 points to 264.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Moscow Stock Exchange by 118 to 78 and 12 ended unchanged.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 1.84% to 36.020.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1167.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.40% or 1.89 to hit $53.63 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 4.30% or 2.60 to trade at $57.73 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 1.04% to 56.555, while EUR/RUB rose 0.32% to 62.654.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 96.29.
