Russia stocks higher at close of trade

Investing.com – Russia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil and Gas, Telecom and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Moscow, the RTSI rose 0.70%, while the MICEX index gained 1.39%.

The best performers of the session on the RTSI were Pharmstandard JSC (MCX:PHST), which rose 8.38% or 80.0 points to trade at 1035.0 at the close. Meanwhile, ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS) added 7.98% or 5.300 points to end at 71.700 and Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX) was up 4.63% or 2.71 points to 61.22 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN), which fell 4.24% or 425.0 points to trade at 9600.0 at the close. LSR (MCX:LSRG) declined 2.99% or 14.0 points to end at 454.0 and RDR United Company RUSAL PLC (MCX:RUALR) was down 2.10% or 8.90 points to 415.10.

The top performers on the MICEX were Pharmstandard JSC (MCX:PHST) which rose 8.38% to 1035.0, ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS) which was up 7.98% to settle at 71.700 and Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX) which gained 4.63% to close at 61.22.

The worst performers were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN) which was down 4.24% to 9600.0 in late trade, LSR (MCX:LSRG) which lost 2.99% to settle at 454.0 and RDR United Company RUSAL PLC (MCX:RUALR) which was down 2.10% to 415.10 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Moscow Stock Exchange by 77 to 59 and 6 ended unchanged.

Gold for February delivery was up 0.35% or 4.30 to $1238.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in February rose 0.31% or 0.14 to hit $46.03 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.48 to trade at $47.34 a barrel.

USD/RUB was up 1.31% to 66.052, while EUR/RUB rose 1.58% to 77.969.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.32% at 92.15.
