Netherlands stocks lower at close of trade; AEX down 5.70%

Investing.com – Netherlands stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX declined 5.70%.

The best performers of the session on the AEX were Ahold Kon (AS:AHLN), which fell 1.52% or 0.30 points to trade at 19.38 at the close. Meanwhile, Relx NV (AS:RELN) fell 1.68% or 0.255 points to end at 14.915 and Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) was down 1.88% or 0.890 points to 46.395 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ING Groep NV (AS:ING), which fell 14.94% or 1.640 points to trade at 9.335 at the close. ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) declined 12.85% or 0.618 points to end at 4.191 and Randstad (AS:RAND) was down 12.62% or 5.92 points to 40.97.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange by 157 to 16 and 9 ended unchanged.

Shares in Randstad (AS:RAND) fell to 52-week lows; down 12.62% or 5.92 to 40.97.

The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 8.72% to 30.39.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 4.77% or 2.39 to $47.72 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 4.79% or 2.44 to hit $48.47 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 4.48% or 56.65 to trade at $1319.75 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was down 2.29% to 1.1122, while EUR/GBP rose 6.52% to 0.8150.

The US Dollar Index was up 2.38% at 95.55.
