Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.43%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Softbank Corp. (T:9984), which rose 3.09% or 161.0 points to trade at 5379.1 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) added 2.74% or 8.0 points to end at 300.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) was up 2.64% or 12.0 points to 466.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which fell 9.18% or 27.2 points to trade at 269.1 at the close. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) declined 5.72% or 54.0 points to end at 890.0 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) was down 5.52% or 8.0 points to 137.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1542 to 419 and 96 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.78% to 29.66.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.16% or 0.07 to $43.20 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.31% or 0.14 to hit $45.27 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.14% or 1.80 to trade at $1325.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 1.36% to 104.37, while EUR/JPY fell 1.23% to 114.91.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 97.05.
