Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Rubber, Shipbuilding and Finance & Investment sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shimizu Corp. (T:1803), which rose 6.03% or 56.0 points to trade at 984.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704) added 5.05% or 190.0 points to end at 3950.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) was up 4.65% or 13.0 points to 292.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which fell 7.50% or 208.5 points to trade at 2571.0 at the close. Bridgestone Corp. (T:5108) declined 6.80% or 246.0 points to end at 3370.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was down 5.08% or 54.0 points to 1008.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1088 to 831 and 138 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.26% to 19.51 a new 6-months low.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.84% or 0.36 to $42.41 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.80% or 0.36 to hit $44.62 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.00% or 13.40 to trade at $1360.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.46% to 101.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.19% to 113.03.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 95.79.
