Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Keio Corp. (T:9008), which rose 7.73% or 67.0 points to trade at 934.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) added 7.42% or 48.0 points to end at 695.0 and Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:9009) was up 7.38% or 89.0 points to 1295.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which fell 15.25% or 17.0 points to trade at 94.5 at the close. Mazda Motor Corp. (T:7261) declined 9.67% or 151.5 points to end at 1414.5 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) was down 8.57% or 6.0 points to 64.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1592 to 347 and 60 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sharp Corp. (T:6753) fell to all time lows; falling 15.25% or 17.0 to 94.5. Shares in Mazda Motor Corp. (T:7261) fell to 3-years lows; down 9.67% or 151.5 to 1414.5. Shares in Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) fell to 3-years lows; losing 8.57% or 6.0 to 64.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 12.13% to 35.77.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.29% or 0.14 to $47.78 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.59% or 0.29 to hit $49.33 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.65% or 8.60 to trade at $1331.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.32% to 101.90, while EUR/JPY fell 0.96% to 112.55.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.55% at 96.16.
