Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.72%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767), which rose 16.46% or 80.0 points to trade at 566.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4063) added 14.51% or 898.0 points to end at 7087.0 and Minebea Co., Ltd. (T:6479) was up 13.76% or 108.0 points to 893.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Itochu Corp. (T:8001), which fell 6.51% or 82.3 points to trade at 1182.2 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) declined 2.45% or 23.0 points to end at 915.0 and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (T:7912) was down 2.03% or 24.0 points to 1156.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1478 to 466 and 111 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.20% to 29.72.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.19% or 0.08 to $42.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.46% or 0.21 to hit $45.02 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.16% or 2.15 to trade at $1326.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.86% to 105.54, while EUR/JPY rose 0.97% to 116.09.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 97.24.
