Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 15.98% or 58.0 points to trade at 421.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 6.61% or 52.0 points to end at 839.0 and Inpex Corp. (T:1605) was up 5.69% or 48.8 points to 906.1 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nichirei Corp. (T:2871), which fell 3.16% or 74.0 points to trade at 2266.0 at the close. Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (T:9062) declined 2.27% or 11.0 points to end at 473.0 and Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T:4507) was down 1.74% or 91.0 points to 5138.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1431 to 543 and 87 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.17% to 19.77.
Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.30% or 0.14 to $46.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.57% or 0.28 to hit $48.96 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.06% or 0.75 to trade at $1324.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.85% to 101.55, while EUR/JPY rose 0.88% to 113.93.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 95.45.
