Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.39% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103), which rose 6.67% or 4.0 points to trade at 64.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) added 6.05% or 17.0 points to end at 298.0 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) was up 5.90% or 67.0 points to 1202.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which fell 1.11% or 3.0 points to trade at 267.0 at the close. Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) declined 1.01% or 8.0 points to end at 784.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was down 0.88% or 1.0 points to 112.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1573 to 309 and 115 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.40% to 26.11.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.22% or 0.11 to $49.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.42% or 0.21 to hit $49.74 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.77% or 9.35 to trade at $1207.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.83% to 111.28, while EUR/JPY rose 0.88% to 123.73.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 95.85.
