Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Transport and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.97%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which rose 12.18% or 45.5 points to trade at 419.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Minebea Co., Ltd. (T:6479) added 11.11% or 105.0 points to end at 1050.0 and Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767) was up 9.57% or 56.0 points to 641.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which fell 6.01% or 27.0 points to trade at 422.0 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) declined 3.02% or 29.0 points to end at 932.0 and The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631) was down 2.43% or 12.0 points to 482.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1517 to 429 and 110 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.96% to 22.70.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.13% or 0.06 to $46.29 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $48.65 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.06% or 0.85 to trade at $1315.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.28% to 103.28, while EUR/JPY rose 0.17% to 115.00.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 96.13.
