Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Manufacturing, Communication and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 8.02% or 21.0 points to trade at 283.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) added 6.78% or 4.0 points to end at 63.0 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) was up 5.87% or 115.0 points to 2073.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which fell 4.98% or 12.0 points to trade at 229.0 at the close. NSK Ltd. (T:6471) declined 3.65% or 36.0 points to end at 951.0 and The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631) was down 2.97% or 14.0 points to 458.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1360 to 501 and 142 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) rose to 52-week highs; up 8.02% or 21.0 to 283.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.06% to 26.18.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.51% or 0.25 to $48.92 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.41% or 0.20 to hit $49.01 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.01% or 0.15 to trade at $1254.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.21% to 110.19, while EUR/JPY rose 0.32% to 123.59.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 95.27.
