Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Pharmaceutical Industry and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Minebea Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6479), which rose 8.93% or 124.0 points to trade at 1513.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4041) added 5.07% or 34.0 points to end at 704.0 and Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5214) was up 4.97% or 26.0 points to 549.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5715), which fell 3.17% or 9.0 points to trade at 275.0 at the close. Tokuyama Corp. (TOKYO:4043) declined 3.00% or 6.0 points to end at 194.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:9064) was down 2.03% or 46.5 points to 2248.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1016 to 860.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.86% to 35.65.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.61% or 0.28 to $45.97 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.64% or 0.33 to hit $50.17 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.09% or 1.00 to trade at $1132.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.10% to 120.44, while EUR/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 135.10.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 96.00.
