Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Rubber sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.39% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501), which rose 6.16% or 41.0 points to trade at 707.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (TOKYO:8411) added 5.90% or 15.1 points to end at 271.1 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5232) was up 4.90% or 21.0 points to 450.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6767), which fell 2.66% or 24.0 points to trade at 878.0 at the close. Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:9009) declined 2.64% or 39.0 points to end at 1440.0 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TOKYO:9107) was down 2.19% or 7.0 points to 313.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 982 to 900.
Shares in Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.16% or 41.0 to 707.0. Shares in Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (TOKYO:8411) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.90% or 15.1 to 271.1. Shares in Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5232) rose to all time highs; up 4.90% or 21.0 to 450.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.87% to 18.02.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.70% or 0.41 to $57.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.98% or 0.61 to hit $62.67 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.23% or 2.70 to trade at $1189.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.00% to 123.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.32% to 135.25.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.25% at 97.10.
