Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Gas & Water and Marine Transport sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.03% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which rose 6.89% or 79.0 points to trade at 1225.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) added 5.02% or 15.0 points to end at 314.0 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) was up 4.36% or 66.0 points to 1581.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Resona Holdings, Inc. (T:8308), which fell 6.08% or 40.5 points to trade at 626.0 at the close. Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) declined 5.44% or 380.0 points to end at 6600.0 and Okuma Corp. (T:6103) was down 4.03% or 42.0 points to 999.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1022 to 850 and 1 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.36% to 20.40 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.54% or 0.23 to $43.16 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.43% or 0.20 to hit $46.85 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.25% or 2.70 to trade at $1087.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 122.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.21% to 132.26.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 98.97.
