Italy stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com Italy 40 down 4.81%

Investing.com – Italy stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Telecoms, Financials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Milan, the Investing.com Italy 40 declined 4.81% to hit a new 52-week low.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were A2A (MI:A2), which rose 0.83% or 0.008 points to trade at 0.977 at the close. Meanwhile, Banca Mediolanum SpA (MI:BMED) fell 1.72% or 0.100 points to end at 5.700 and Snam (MI:SRG) was down 1.87% or 0.090 points to 4.722 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UBI Banca (MI:UBI), which fell 12.11% or 0.4100 points to trade at 2.9760 at the close. Saipem (MI:SPMI) declined 12.02% or 0.0435 points to end at 0.3185 and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS) was down 9.88% or 0.0531 points to 0.4844.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Milan Stock Exchange by 382 to 46 and 9 ended unchanged.

Shares in UBI Banca (MI:UBI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 12.11% or 0.4100 to 2.9760. Shares in Saipem (MI:SPMI) fell to all time lows; down 12.02% or 0.0435 to 0.3185. Shares in Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS) fell to 3-years lows; down 9.88% or 0.0531 to 0.4844.

Crude oil for March delivery was down 2.35% or 0.65 to $26.80 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 1.73% or 0.54 to hit $30.30 a barrel, while the April Gold contract rose 5.11% or 61.00 to trade at $1255.60 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.1352, while EUR/GBP rose 1.05% to 0.7856.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 95.46.
