Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Green Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 1.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.12%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC), which rose 2.01% or 6.50 points to trade at 329.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Bank Of Baroda (NSE:BOB) added 1.54% or 2.40 points to end at 157.80 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NSE:PGRD) was up 1.53% or 2.15 points to 143.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NSE:ABUJ), which fell 3.85% or 9.30 points to trade at 232.30 at the close. ITC Ltd (NSE:ITC) declined 3.75% or 12.35 points to end at 316.80 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was down 3.30% or 6.80 points to 199.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.12% to 329.30, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.25% to settle at 400.00 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 0.41% to close at 562.95.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 3.59% to 200.00 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 3.29% to settle at 317.65 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.70% to 1252.80 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 867 to 560 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 430 fell and 270 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.09% to 16.9325 a new 1-month low.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1204.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.35% or 0.21 to hit $59.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.15 to trade at $65.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 63.541, while EUR/INR fell 0.28% to 69.7570.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 96.44.
