Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 3.32% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 3.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 1.10% or 1.10 points to trade at 101.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 0.42% or 2.25 points to end at 540.85 and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:REDY) was up 0.01% or 0.30 points to 2885.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which fell 7.89% or 16.00 points to trade at 186.85 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 7.36% or 4.95 points to end at 62.30 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) was down 6.05% or 7.75 points to 120.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which rose 0.40% to 541.00, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (BO:REDY) which was up 0.01% to settle at 2887.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 0.71% to close at 308.60.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 7.49% to 62.35 in late trade, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which lost 6.01% to settle at 120.35 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 5.55% to 275.65 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1361 to 81 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 738 fell and 60 advanced, while 16 ended unchanged.

(NS:BHEL) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.05% or 7.75 to 120.25. Shares in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.01% or 7.70 to 120.35. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.55% or 16.20 to 275.65.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 15.58% to 25.9650 a new 3-months high.
Gold for April delivery was up 2.54% or 30.30 to $1224.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.46% or 0.68 to hit $26.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.34 to trade at $30.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.67% to 68.316, while EUR/INR rose 0.87% to 77.3080.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 95.60.
