Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.66%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB), which rose 3.28% or 30.05 points to trade at 945.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) added 1.20% or 1.50 points to end at 126.50 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 0.89% or 178.65 points to 20292.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 4.82% or 5.05 points to trade at 99.80 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 4.77% or 4.85 points to end at 96.90 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was down 4.50% or 37.65 points to 799.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 0.85% to 2526.95, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 0.59% to settle at 468.25 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 0.23% to close at 372.30.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.77% to 96.90 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 4.63% to settle at 100.00 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 3.21% to 1087.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1049 to 375 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 587 fell and 228 advanced, while 33 ended unchanged.
Shares in Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.28% or 30.05 to 945.55.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.50% to 16.5975.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.66% or 8.20 to $1258.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.18% or 0.08 to hit $45.41 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.10 to trade at $47.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.44% to 66.510, while EUR/INR rose 0.46% to 75.5070.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.65% at 93.77.
