India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.15%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Metals and Banking sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.14%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 9.08% or 6.15 points to trade at 73.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 9.08% or 150.05 points to end at 1802.85 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) was up 4.39% or 16.80 points to 399.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH), which fell 5.24% or 889.75 points to trade at 16089.10 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 3.51% or 12.45 points to end at 342.55 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) was down 2.13% or 4.60 points to 211.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 9.00% to 73.85, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 4.40% to settle at 398.90 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which gained 3.93% to close at 71.35.

The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 3.62% to 341.75 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.86% to settle at 3723.25 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.03% to 124.70 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 974 to 449 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 546 rose and 250 declined, while 21 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.24% or 889.75 to 16089.10.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.51% to 18.1150.

Gold for April delivery was up 0.15% or 1.70 to $1159.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.87% or 0.28 to hit $32.00 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.14 to trade at $34.60 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.20% to 67.675, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 75.6970.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.18% at 96.69.
