India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.07%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Auto, Technology and Green Energy sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.15%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 8.40% or 8.50 points to trade at 109.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) added 7.96% or 22.00 points to end at 298.35 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 5.13% or 15.85 points to 324.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which fell 13.14% or 15.80 points to trade at 104.45 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 5.50% or 44.95 points to end at 772.80 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 4.87% or 9.90 points to 193.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 8.34% to 298.65, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 5.40% to settle at 325.25 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 3.77% to close at 1168.40.

The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 13.13% to 104.55 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 4.56% to settle at 193.55 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.16% to 61.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 975 to 449 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 509 fell and 282 advanced, while 24 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 13.14% or 15.80 to 104.45. Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.87% or 9.90 to 193.25. Shares in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) fell to 52-week lows; down 13.13% or 15.80 to 104.55. Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) fell to 3-years lows; losing 4.56% or 9.25 to 193.55. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) fell to 3-years lows; losing 4.16% or 2.65 to 61.00.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.98% to 24.6725.

Gold for April delivery was down 0.53% or 6.60 to $1241.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.72% or 0.97 to hit $27.18 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.81% or 1.15 to trade at $31.20 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.38% to 68.186, while EUR/INR fell 0.74% to 76.9260.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 95.76.
