Germany stocks mixed at close of trade; DAX down 0.12%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Insurance and Retail sectors led shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Financial Services and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.12%, while the MDAX index added 0.01%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.04%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 4.29% or 0.322 points to trade at 7.822 at the close. Meanwhile, Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.96% or 2.700 points to end at 140.450 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 1.43% or 2.250 points to 159.550 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which fell 1.75% or 0.55 points to trade at 30.80 at the close. Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) declined 1.52% or 1.750 points to end at 113.150 and Siemens AG (DE:SIEGn) was down 1.48% or 1.750 points to 116.200.

The top performers on the MDAX were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which rose 3.18% to 65.950, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which was up 2.82% to settle at 35.930 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which gained 2.74% to close at 9.40.

The worst performers were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was down 2.45% to 29.800 in late trade, Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which lost 2.09% to settle at 11.740 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was down 2.00% to 73.400 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which rose 2.75% to 12.700, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 1.74% to settle at 46.700 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which gained 1.48% to close at 42.500.

The worst performers were Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which was down 2.18% to 98.310 in late trade, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which lost 1.87% to settle at 44.955 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 1.67% to 53.550 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 473 to 301 and 21 ended unchanged.

Shares in Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.96% or 2.700 to 140.450. Shares in Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.43% or 2.250 to 159.550. Shares in Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 3.18% or 2.030 to 65.950.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.80% to 17.29.

Gold for February delivery was up 0.81% or 9.30 to $1161.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.33% or 1.25 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.15% or 1.22 to trade at $55.60 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.36% to 1.0417, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8499.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.76% at 103.15.
