Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.72%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Transportation & Logistics, Insurance and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.72%, while the MDAX index lost 1.35%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.06%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG), which rose 2.84% or 0.705 points to trade at 25.570 at the close. Meanwhile, Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) fell 0.24% or 0.030 points to end at 12.360 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) was down 0.24% or 0.180 points to 73.840 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN), which fell 5.91% or 1.890 points to trade at 30.080 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) declined 4.35% or 1.295 points to end at 28.465 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was down 2.97% or 6.750 points to 220.550.

The top performers on the MDAX were Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (XETRA:HNRGn) which rose 1.49% to 88.480, Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (XETRA:KD8Gn) which was up 1.11% to settle at 123.150 and Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which gained 0.79% to close at 41.51.

The worst performers were Gagfah SA Nom. (XETRA:GFJG) which was down 3.79% to 18.000 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which lost 3.61% to settle at 39.000 and Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) which was down 2.51% to 28.92 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which rose 2.24% to 3.967, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was up 2.19% to settle at 1.960 and Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which gained 1.41% to close at 5.330.

The worst performers were Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which was down 3.66% to 113.050 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which lost 3.45% to settle at 6.575 and Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was down 3.08% to 157.500 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 610 to 125 and 35 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.61% or 1.460 to 39.000. Shares in Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 1.41% or 0.074 to 5.330.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 6.43% to 22.52.

Gold for June delivery was up 0.84% or 9.90 to $1192.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.53% or 1.50 to hit $60.75 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.80% or 1.84 to trade at $67.46 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.81% to 1.1246, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.7167.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.71% at 94.44.
