Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.82%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Financial Services and Media sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.82%, while the MDAX index added 1.95%, and the TecDAX index added 2.59%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn), which rose 3.37% or 2.700 points to trade at 82.750 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) added 2.95% or 1.850 points to end at 64.520 and K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) was up 2.42% or 0.870 points to 36.865 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which fell 7.91% or 1.445 points to trade at 16.825 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) declined 1.44% or 0.175 points to end at 11.980 and Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (XETRA:HNKG_p) was down 0.69% or 0.680 points to 98.450.

The top performers on the MDAX were Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which rose 7.44% to 15.605, Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which was up 6.77% to settle at 56.920 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (XETRA:DWNG) which gained 5.73% to close at 24.350.

The worst performers were Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which was down 5.15% to 37.975 in late trade, Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which lost 1.78% to settle at 13.795 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 0.34% to 30.795 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 12.40% to 35.430, Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which was up 6.33% to settle at 9.890 and BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which gained 6.17% to close at 282.050.

The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (XETRA:COKG) which was down 0.92% to 31.600 in late trade, Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which gained 0.82% to settle at 12.325 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which was up 0.90% to 24.770 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 576 to 164 and 34 ended unchanged.

Shares in RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) fell to all time lows; falling 7.91% or 1.445 to 16.825. Shares in SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 12.40% or 3.910 to 35.430.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.07% to 20.74.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.70% or 7.90 to $1115.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.49% or 1.08 to hit $42.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 0.72 to trade at $49.46 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.13% to 1.1143, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.7139.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 96.44.
