Germany stocks higher at close of trade

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Chemicals and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 2.20% to hit a new 1-month high, while the MDAX index gained 1.77%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.05%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Beiersdorf AG O.N. (XETRA:BEIG), which rose 5.60% or 3.920 points to trade at 73.950 at the close. Meanwhile, Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) added 4.22% or 0.815 points to end at 20.150 and Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN) was up 3.12% or 3.650 points to 120.500 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 0.69% or 0.100 points to trade at 14.680 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG) added 0.79% or 0.500 points to end at 63.950 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) was up 1.00% or 0.090 points to 9.081.

The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which rose 7.21% to 44.625, Leoni AG NA O.N. (XETRA:LEOGn) which was up 4.31% to settle at 51.980 and Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which gained 3.97% to close at 33.660.

The worst performers were Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which was down 1.01% to 58.850 in late trade, Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which lost 0.87% to settle at 25.080 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 0.68% to 10.185 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which rose 4.62% to 235.500, Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which was up 2.70% to settle at 88.500 and Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which gained 2.53% to close at 32.075.

The worst performers were QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was down 3.37% to 1.751 in late trade, Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which lost 1.52% to settle at 5.062 and Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which was down 1.42% to 74.500 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 542 to 176 and 29 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.79% or 0.500 to 63.950. Shares in BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) rose to all time highs; rising 4.62% or 10.400 to 235.500. Shares in Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) rose to all time highs; up 2.53% or 0.790 to 32.075.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.79% to 22.62.

Gold for February delivery was up 2.31% or 28.50 to $1263.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in February fell 1.61% or 0.78 to hit $47.70 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 0.93% or 0.47 to trade at $49.40 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.59% to 1.1600, while EUR/GBP fell 1.10% to 0.7653.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 92.80.
