Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk, who had an eventful 2014 designing rockets, introducing supercars and unveiling the Tesla D in October, has another surprise for his followers before the year comes to an end -- an update to his company’s first electric car, Tesla Roadster.

Replying to a tweet about the Roadster update, Musk said that he would announce details about the update sometime this week. Musk, who is also the CEO of SpaceX, stated that the update was delayed by “several crisis issues,” which could possibly include the explosion of the SpaceX Falcon rocket in August, Mashable reported.

Tesla Roadster is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) sports car, which was launched in 2008 and sold in the U.S. Tesla, which had reportedly stopped taking orders for the Roadster in the U.S. market in August 2011, produced the car until January 2012.

In August, Musk told Auto Express that the Roadster would get an upgraded battery, which would allow the vehicle to cover 400 miles in a single charge. The original Roadster could only travel up to 245 miles in a single charge.
