Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 2.09%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which rose 14.39% or 0.19 points to trade at 1.51 at the close. Meanwhile, Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:D_u) added 2.12% or 0.44 points to end at 21.19 and Smart REIT (TO:SRU_u) was up 1.97% or 0.58 points to 30.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF), which fell 10.11% or 1.62 points to trade at 14.40 at the close. Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S) declined 8.99% or 0.08 points to end at 0.81 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was down 8.10% or 0.51 points to 5.79.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 927 to 379 and 188 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S) fell to all time lows; losing 8.99% or 0.08 to 0.81. Shares in First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.10% or 0.51 to 5.79.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.81% to 23.95.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.74% or 8.40 to $1124.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.53% or 0.72 to hit $46.24 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.09 to trade at $49.01 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7538, while CAD/EUR rose 0.46% to 0.6775.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 96.50.
