Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Mining and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.79%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC), which rose 11.04% or 0.370 points to trade at 3.720 at the close. Meanwhile, Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) added 10.97% or 0.35 points to end at 3.54 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 8.14% or 0.21 points to 2.79 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG), which fell 12.05% or 0.63 points to trade at 4.60 at the close. Intertain Group (TO:IT) declined 9.55% or 0.82 points to end at 7.77 and Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) was down 9.54% or 0.52 points to 4.93.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 785 to 481 and 278 ended unchanged.
Shares in OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 11.04% or 0.370 to 3.720. Shares in Intertain Group (TO:IT) fell to 52-week lows; losing 9.55% or 0.82 to 7.77.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 13.58% to 27.94 a new 3-months high.
Gold for April delivery was up 2.89% or 33.40 to $1191.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.57% or 0.80 to hit $30.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.98% or 1.01 to trade at $33.05 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.10% to 0.7179, while CAD/EUR fell 0.45% to 0.6412.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 96.72.
