Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.45% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which rose 4.62% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI) added 2.90% or 0.47 points to end at 16.68 and Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) was up 2.79% or 0.42 points to 15.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Surge Energy Inc . (TO:SGY), which fell 7.31% or 0.250 points to trade at 3.170 at the close. Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) declined 6.40% or 0.43 points to end at 6.29 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was down 6.28% or 0.77 points to 11.49.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 1013 to 384 and 194 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.03% to 12.54.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.46% or 5.30 to $1157.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.14% or 0.59 to hit $51.73 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.35 to trade at $57.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7850, while CAD/EUR fell 0.81% to 0.7087.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.50% at 96.40.
