Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.09% to hit a new 52-week low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canadian Oil Sands Limited (TO:COS), which rose 10.56% or 0.79 points to trade at 8.27 at the close. Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 3.54% or 0.04 points to end at 1.17 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was up 2.79% or 0.06 points to 2.21 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL), which fell 7.37% or 0.25 points to trade at 3.14 at the close. Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) declined 6.98% or 0.06 points to end at 0.80 and Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF) was down 6.41% or 0.05 points to 0.73.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 839 to 393 and 197 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.90% to 26.22.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.17% or 1.80 to $1088.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.35% or 0.41 to hit $29.98 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.14 to trade at $28.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.6869, while CAD/EUR rose 0.02% to 0.6305.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 99.17.
