Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.02%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K), which rose 8.04% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.42 at the close. Meanwhile, Bellatrix Exploration Ltd (TO:BXE) added 7.14% or 0.17 points to end at 2.55 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 6.22% or 0.14 points to 2.39 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which fell 8.43% or 0.64 points to trade at 6.95 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) declined 7.41% or 0.42 points to end at 5.25 and Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) was down 7.41% or 0.12 points to 1.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 778 to 556 and 163 ended unchanged.
Shares in Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.41% or 0.42 to 5.25.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.61% to 20.51.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.95% or 21.80 to $1138.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.26% or 2.00 to hit $44.90 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.84% or 1.40 to trade at $47.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.28% to 0.7566, while CAD/EUR rose 0.96% to 0.6699.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.78% at 95.37.
