Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enghouse Systems Limited (TO:ESL), which rose 10.15% or 5.66 points to trade at 61.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) added 4.60% or 0.39 points to end at 8.87 and Restaurant Brands Intl (TO:QSR) was up 4.52% or 2.13 points to 49.28 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which fell 12.63% or 0.75 points to trade at 5.19 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) declined 11.25% or 1.33 points to end at 10.49 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was down 9.05% or 0.68 points to 6.83.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 717 to 624 and 191 ended unchanged.
Shares in Enghouse Systems Limited (TO:ESL) rose to all time highs; rising 10.15% or 5.66 to 61.40. Shares in Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.60% or 0.39 to 8.87.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.19% to 19.53.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.09% or 12.90 to $1170.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.63% or 1.25 to hit $46.47 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 1.67 to trade at $48.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.79% to 0.7681, while CAD/EUR fell 0.54% to 0.6783.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 95.00.
