Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Mining and REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 9.48% or 0.22 points to trade at 2.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF) added 7.22% or 0.14 points to end at 2.08 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 6.52% or 0.09 points to 1.47 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO), which fell 11.89% or 1.72 points to trade at 12.74 at the close. Bankers Petroleum Ltd . (TO:BNK) declined 7.66% or 0.180 points to end at 2.170 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was down 6.96% or 0.16 points to 2.14.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 772 to 592 and 197 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.11% to 19.13.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.60% or 6.70 to $1107.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.87% or 1.38 to hit $46.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.48% or 1.76 to trade at $48.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.69% to 0.7604, while CAD/EUR rose 0.27% to 0.6999.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.77% at 97.99.
