Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Air Canada (TO:AC), which rose 6.42% or 0.680 points to trade at 11.280 at the close. Meanwhile, Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) added 4.28% or 0.36 points to end at 8.78 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 3.85% or 0.200 points to 5.390 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR), which fell 4.53% or 0.65 points to trade at 13.71 at the close. Goldcorp Inc. (TO:G) declined 4.48% or 0.97 points to end at 20.68 and Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) was down 3.88% or 0.20 points to 4.96.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 743 to 421 and 140 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.47% to 14.92.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.14% or 1.85 to $1315.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.87% or 0.42 to hit $48.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.59 to trade at $50.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7625, while CAD/EUR rose 0.34% to 0.6799.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 95.62.
