Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Mining and Consumer Staples sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS), which rose 7.34% or 0.13 points to trade at 1.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) added 6.13% or 1.05 points to end at 18.18 and Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET) was up 5.24% or 0.43 points to 8.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc (TO:PJCa), which fell 7.15% or 1.97 points to trade at 25.60 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) declined 5.47% or 0.250 points to end at 4.320 and Sierra Wireless Inc. (TO:SW) was down 3.91% or 1.86 points to 45.69.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 749 to 715 and 196 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 13.71% to 13.59 a new 3-months low.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.50% or 6.00 to $1204.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.14% or 0.65 to hit $56.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.27 to trade at $63.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.8179, while CAD/EUR fell 0.71% to 0.7570.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 97.61.
