Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Morneau Shepell Inc (TO:MSI), which rose 3.81% or 0.75 points to trade at 20.43 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitel Networks Corporation (TO:MNW) added 3.05% or 0.27 points to end at 9.12 and Ensign Energy Services Inc . (TO:ESI) was up 2.99% or 0.26 points to 8.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Restaurant Brands Intl (TO:QSR), which fell 4.49% or 2.81 points to trade at 59.80 at the close. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) declined 4.37% or 1.65 points to end at 36.09 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) was down 4.35% or 0.140 points to 3.080.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 638 to 525 and 122 ended unchanged.
Shares in Morneau Shepell Inc (TO:MSI) rose to all time highs; rising 3.81% or 0.75 to 20.43.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.39% to 13.32.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.26% or 3.30 to $1264.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.79% or 0.40 to hit $50.45 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.37 to trade at $51.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6890.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 98.69.
