Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TO:TXG), which rose 6.06% or 0.060 points to trade at 1.050 at the close. Meanwhile, Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) added 5.17% or 0.170 points to end at 3.460 and NuVista Energy Ltd. (TO:NVA) was up 4.67% or 0.340 points to 7.620 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which fell 10.64% or 2.07 points to trade at 17.38 at the close. Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS) declined 7.83% or 0.13 points to end at 1.53 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was down 5.51% or 0.81 points to 13.88.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 793 to 639 and 189 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 10.80% to 17.14.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.14% or 1.70 to $1183.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.24% or 1.09 to hit $47.59 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.90% or 1.07 to trade at $55.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.19% to 0.7891, while CAD/EUR rose 0.82% to 0.7339.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.36% at 98.66.
