Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Mining and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which rose 6.99% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.53 at the close. Meanwhile, Toromont Industries Ltd . (TO:TIH) added 4.83% or 1.60 points to end at 34.75 and Just Energy Group Inc . (TO:JE) was up 4.16% or 0.32 points to 8.01 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC), which fell 8.27% or 1.24 points to trade at 13.76 at the close. Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) declined 7.03% or 0.26 points to end at 3.44 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was down 6.17% or 0.28 points to 4.26.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 700 to 579 and 333 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.65% to 15.53 a new 6-months low.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.65% or 20.60 to $1227.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.69% or 0.29 to hit $41.47 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.31 to trade at $43.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.27% to 0.7780, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.6911.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 94.96.
