Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrials and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.13%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 22.90% or 1.42 points to trade at 7.62 at the close. Meanwhile, Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) added 10.76% or 1.45 points to end at 14.92 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) was up 9.52% or 0.38 points to 4.37 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR), which fell 10.65% or 11.78 points to trade at 98.82 at the close. Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) declined 7.06% or 0.06 points to end at 0.79 and Emera Incorporated (TO:EMA) was down 4.63% or 2.04 points to 42.01.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 767 to 578 and 170 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.03% to 24.64.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.40 to $1121.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.46% or 0.21 to hit $45.84 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.76% or 1.79 to trade at $49.42 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.69% to 0.7567, while CAD/EUR rose 0.34% to 0.6750.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 95.83.
