Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.82%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crew Energy Inc (TO:CR), which rose 7.05% or 0.38 points to trade at 5.77 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) added 6.69% or 0.48 points to end at 7.65 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA) was up 6.05% or 0.370 points to 6.490 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 2.57% or 0.34 points to trade at 12.91 at the close. Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb) declined 2.53% or 0.89 points to end at 34.30 and Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAA) was down 2.24% or 0.44 points to 19.22.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 829 to 321 and 149 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.94% to 15.39.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.17% or 2.25 to $1292.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.49% or 1.21 to hit $49.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.44% or 1.20 to trade at $50.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.64% to 0.7806, while CAD/EUR rose 0.36% to 0.6903.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.63% at 93.71.
