Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF), which rose 8.22% or 0.47 points to trade at 6.19 at the close. Meanwhile, MAG Silver Corp . (TO:MAG) added 7.91% or 1.59 points to end at 21.69 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 7.30% or 0.360 points to 5.290 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR), which fell 4.08% or 0.45 points to trade at 10.59 at the close. Enghouse Systems Limited (TO:ESL) declined 2.14% or 1.22 points to end at 55.87 and Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO) was down 2.02% or 0.18 points to 8.75.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 727 to 389 and 134 ended unchanged.
Shares in Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.08% or 0.45 to 10.59. Shares in Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.02% or 0.18 to 8.75.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.11% to 13.19.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.91% or 11.95 to $1329.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.64% or 1.14 to hit $44.30 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.75% or 1.25 to trade at $46.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.97% to 0.7701, while CAD/EUR rose 1.22% to 0.6898.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 95.86.
