Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Mining and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.64% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 13.85% or 0.590 points to trade at 4.850 at the close. Meanwhile, Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) added 13.50% or 1.11 points to end at 9.33 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was up 13.36% or 0.76 points to 6.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR), which fell 6.53% or 2.40 points to trade at 34.35 at the close. Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) declined 5.18% or 0.45 points to end at 8.23 and Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) was down 4.02% or 0.53 points to 12.65.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 638 to 520 and 137 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.25% to 12.01.
Gold for August delivery was up 2.79% or 33.80 to $1246.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.67% or 0.33 to hit $48.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.23 to trade at $49.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.19% to 0.7727, while CAD/EUR fell 0.63% to 0.6804.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.68% at 93.95.
