Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 16.34% or 0.33 points to trade at 2.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Firstservice Corp (TO:FSV) added 6.18% or 2.02 points to end at 34.72 and Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (TO:BNK) was up 5.80% or 0.170 points to 3.100 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which fell 4.26% or 0.10 points to trade at 2.25 at the close. Semafo Inc. (TO:SMF) declined 3.72% or 0.13 points to end at 3.36 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was down 3.66% or 0.47 points to 12.38.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 808 to 634 and 187 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) fell to all time lows; falling 4.26% or 0.10 to 2.25. Shares in Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) fell to 5-year lows; losing 3.66% or 0.47 to 12.38.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.69% to 13.58.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.57% or 6.70 to $1172.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.68% or 0.98 to hit $59.31 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.34% or 1.45 to trade at $63.46 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.74% to 0.8003, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.7184.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.69% at 95.73.
