Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were RMP Energy Inc. (TO:RMP), which rose 4.39% or 0.130 points to trade at 3.090 at the close. Meanwhile, Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) added 4.19% or 3.55 points to end at 88.27 and Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI) was up 4.15% or 0.63 points to 15.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS), which fell 5.41% or 0.08 points to trade at 1.40 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) declined 3.50% or 1.16 points to end at 32.03 and AGF Management Ltd (TO:AGFb) was down 3.30% or 0.23 points to 6.74.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 727 to 690 and 198 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS) fell to all time lows; falling 5.41% or 0.08 to 1.40. Shares in Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) rose to all time highs; up 4.19% or 3.55 to 88.27. Shares in AGF Management Ltd (TO:AGFb) fell to all time lows; falling 3.30% or 0.23 to 6.74.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.13% to 14.72.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.30 to $1189.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.08% or 0.05 to hit $60.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.59 to trade at $64.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.59% to 0.7984, while CAD/EUR fell 0.04% to 0.7303.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.55% at 97.47.
