Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrials, Consumer Discretionary and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Air Canada (TO:AC), which rose 8.03% or 1.010 points to trade at 13.590 at the close. Meanwhile, Amaya Gaming Group Inc (TO:AYA) added 4.91% or 1.60 points to end at 34.20 and BRP Inc. (TO:DOO) was up 4.45% or 1.17 points to 27.44 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS), which fell 5.26% or 0.09 points to trade at 1.62 at the close. Crescent Point Energy Corp. (TO:CPG) declined 4.73% or 1.40 points to end at 28.19 and Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) was down 4.56% or 0.180 points to 3.770.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 742 to 717 and 192 ended unchanged.
Shares in Air Canada (TO:AC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 8.03% or 1.010 to 13.590.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.24% to 12.87.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1188.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.49% or 0.28 to hit $57.74 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.20% or 1.40 to trade at $62.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.8027, while CAD/EUR fell 0.49% to 0.7360.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 97.34.
