Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.38% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 5.68% or 0.84 points to trade at 15.64 at the close. Meanwhile, Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) added 5.41% or 1.160 points to end at 22.600 and Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF) was up 4.76% or 0.090 points to 1.980 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which fell 8.17% or 0.170 points to trade at 1.910 at the close. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) declined 5.65% or 0.130 points to end at 2.170 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) was down 4.97% or 1.65 points to 31.55.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 614 to 592 and 124 ended unchanged.
Shares in ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.17% or 0.170 to 1.910.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.31% to 9.66 a new 3-months low.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.43% or 5.10 to $1172.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.15% or 1.07 to hit $50.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 0.91 to trade at $53.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.33% to 0.7581, while CAD/EUR rose 1.67% to 0.7142.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.83% at 101.11.
